Product Videos

We know it’s difficult to capture the beauty of natural crystals, minerals and gems with pictures so we’ve started to take a few videos of some of the lovely crystals we have for sale. It will take some time and we will only record footage of pieces we think are hiding their true beauty.
If you have any particular requests, let us know and we will consider those first!

This last one is a particular favourite, a clear quartz phantom crystal ball which exhibits a lovely effect when rotated, it will be available to purchase soon…shop for other phantom crystal ball

Mala Beads

Tibetan bone mala

Recently we’ve managed to restock with mala beads. As you’re probably aware many faiths use mala’s or a similar style of prayer bead.
Having used them in the type of yoga I practise(Kundalini Yoga) I can share with you my experiences.
Although most malas are recognised by their 108 beads with a single often 3 way bead(guru bead) at the bottom and a tassle(which represents the petals of a lotus) malas can be divisible by 108 so 54, 27 are also used.
Occasionally you may also see a mala rings.

A mala can be used in either hand, lots of people use the thumb to move each bead reciting a mantra or prayer, the mantras can be said in part or full with the turn of the bead depending on the mantra.

middle finger meridian – patience

Each finger on the hand represents a planet, a part of the brain and a physical or emotional system. So if you are working on yourself you may want to ensure the beads pass the meridian of the require finger.
Index finger is for knowledge, prosperity and Jupiter
Middle finger for patience and Saturn
Ring finger health, energy, nervous system and the Sun
Little finger intellect, communication skills and Mercury

snow white quartz mala

A mala can be created from many materials, wood malas our favourite are a sandalwood mala where you can catch a faint fragrance of sandalwood when you meditate. Seed mala with lotus seeds or Rudhraksha.

There are many types of gemstone mala, clear quartz crystal mala, amethyst,  black agate, jasper, carnelian or even perhaps a custom combination of different gems or perhaps quartz with rudhraksha.

Don’t forget all materials have properties which will help so take care of your mala keep it safe when you’re not using it. Or perhaps wear it around your neck or wrist to keep it with you ready for an impromptu meditation.

The important thing is to meditate regularly so whichever system or method you choose to follow- just be!

when is a moonstone a blue moonstone & ‘O’ delivery news!

dark black shade, the darkest black seem to be from Madagascar with a lighter shade from India.

Moonstone appears in different guises;

moonstone tumblestones

with a gorgeous blue colour often called rainbow moonstone, again most commonly from India.

Then there is the Sri Lankan blue moonstone which we feel is in a different league the stone appears colourless but the blue just emanates from within.

As we are bombarded by the ‘O’ word (olympics) we just have to mention that deliveries to the London ‘olympic zone’ although dispatched promptly as normal may be slightly delayed including Royal Mail ‘Special Delivery’ services.
The rest of the UK and the world shall be unaffected.

Bespoke Designs

What do you look for in a piece of gemstone jewellery?
Presumably you’re focusing on the gemstone or crystal, it needs to be prominent and usually the centre piece of the design.
if you can’t find ‘the’ piece what are your options?
Perhaps consider purchasing the gemstone then having the piece of jewellery made could be the answer, with modern jewellery making techniques the cost could be less than you think, especially if you’re looking for an important piece such as an engagement ring.

platinium diamond ring

Recently we created this diamond platinum engagement for a customer from a design diagram they sent to us.

Browsing gemstones online is very easy and is a handy way to compare styles, cuts & colours of gems.

But remember being cost conscious there are alternatives, consider white sapphires instead of diamonds, spinel instead of ruby, green tourmalines or peridot instead of emeralds, citrine, fluorite, garnet, topaz all nice colour gems that are available at most budgets. Perhaps several smaller stones rather than one larger or perhaps a larger centre stone of tourmaline or a lower grade sapphire or aquamarine with high grade accent stones, the possibilities are many!

Remember that gemstones do increase in value, combined with precious metals, gold, platinum and even silver in the current economic climate they can become a reliable investment.

What’s Popular & Free Shipping for orders over…

Well we’ve had lot’s of azurite sales earlier this year, now fossil, petrified wood seems to be in demand, also crystal balls, we like to keep a good range of spheres in stock and are big crystal ball fans.
Here’s a lovely orbicular jasper ball that everyone here keeps commenting on, it has a lovely range of colour.

Ever popular clear quartz crystal balls, we’ve noticed an increase in the number of glass balls being advertised even with mineral names so beware when shopping for a crystal ball, real clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz and other minerals are cool to the touch, heavy and may have some inclusions which create lovely rainbow colours(mostly quartz family).
Also on the market are synthesised quartz balls often the weight can vary and tiny bubble like inclusions can be seen.

So be careful sometime the sellers aren’t particularly knowledgeable on their product ranges.

Here’s a beautiful rutilated smokey quartz from Brazil, fine titanium ‘strands’ (also known as angel hair)growing in the quartz create a firework like effect when held to the light.

Rarer still are these small but lovely star ruby spheres, technically called an asterism, the light reflecting from the surface creates a 6 way star effect. Normally these stones are selected for jewellery making and never seen in a sphere.

Changes: We’re going to keep our ‘free shipping over..’ option but have raised the threshold to £25, this will change tomorrow at approx. 10am(22nd May)

We’ve also added another postage option  for orders qualifying for free shipping an upgrade to 1st class post for £1.50 ideal if you need it quickly or just can’t wait!
Just select the required shipping service during checkout.

Recent Popular Crystals

From the start of this year we’ve been selling a lot more black tourmaline than normal.
Maybe something to do with the start of 2012!

Black tourmaline can be found in many locations around the world but notable pieces originate from Brazil and Madagascar.
Here’s a couple of chunkier pieces from Madagascar lovely quality and a lot bigger than normal.
It’s properties include being used to repel, filter and protect against negativity and ill wishes directed from another, carried to keep one above the gloominess that can lurk.Used with quartz it can energise the holder whilst being protective.
Also known as schorl black tourmaline can anchor and ground you whilst improving focus. The striations are said to help when working with engery flows.
It’s not as pretty as it close relatives, watermelon, rubellite, indicolite but definately one to have within reach.
Some yogic breathing with a couple of tourmaline pebbles at the end of a  taxing day can work wonders!

We’ve carefully chosen a universal size guide to avoid any (brand endorsements and confusion), please note no chocolate biscuits were consumed during this photographic session!

Have a handy tumblestone or pebble in your pocket!

Are you a collector?

Are you a collector but havn’t realised it yet?
We all know crystals are available in different qualities? – sometimes we wonder why the price can differ a lot.
No doubt every now and then we see a deep coloured, particularly clear example which finds it’s way home with us to join it’s smaller, paler, less shapely family member!

eg. why is that tiny piece of rose quartz costing more than the chunk I purchased last week?

Well it’s a natural crystal formation and rose quartz crystal formations are fairly hard to find. This one has sceptre like points as well!

Amethyst SceptreHere’s a lovely deep colour amethyst sceptre, small but lovely colour from Madagascar, have you seen the ones from ‘Crystal Park’ Montana or Brazil, so you can see how you can find yourself on the lookout for a nice display case!
Other unusual crystals appearing this month include:
 yellow tourmaline
Phenakite
Crystals not your thing how about a nice large ruby pendant or peridot cabochon to make your own!
